Dan Rather Signs Off

To a nation still nursing a broken heart for what happened here in 2001 and especially those who found themselves closest to the events of Sept. 11; to our soldiers in dangerous places; to those who have endured the tsunami and to all who have suffered natural disasters and who must find the will to rebuild; to the oppressed and to those whose lot it is to struggle, in financial hardship or in failing health; to my fellow journalists in places where reporting the truth means risking all; and to each of you.

Courage.

Reminded me of the Prayers of the People from the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer:

For our Bishop, and for all the clergy and people, let us pray
to the Lord.

For our President, for the leaders of the nations, and for all in
authority, let us pray to the Lord.

For deliverance from all danger, violence, oppression, and
degradation, let us pray to the Lord.

For the absolution and remission of our sins and offenses, let us pray to the Lord.

That we may end our lives in faith and hope, without
suffering and without reproach, let us pray to the Lord.
Lord, have mercy.

Defend us, deliver us, and in thy compassion protect us, O
Lord, by thy grace.
Lord, have mercy.
