Update on Philippine Ferry Fire: 222 passengers, crew rescued from burning ship

In this Philippine Navy handout, smoke billows from the MV Princess of the World passenger ferry following a fire on Thursday July 7, 2005 off Dulunguian Point near Siocon town, 770 kilometers (480 miles) southeast of Manila. All 249 passengers and crew aboard were safely evacuated, the coast guard and the ship's owner said. It wasn't immediately clear what started the fire on the 10,709-ton ship, which left Manila on Tuesday and prompted U.S. service members, stationed in the southern Philippines as partof counterterrorism cooperation, were helping in the evacuations.
