Following in the footsteps of the Strait of Malacca: Yemeni Interior Minister Calls for Regional Security Strategy

Regional cooperation seemsto be having some effect on piracy in the Strait of Malacca, so why not off the Arab Peninsula? There's a meeting coming up and Yemen may be getting out front on the issue:

Brigadier Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, the Minister of the Interior, has called for a security strategy for the Gulf and the Arab Peninsula countries.
“The strategy will be based on effective and complete partnership between all countries of the region,” he said.
“All the concerned countries have to act to achieve this strategy to establish security, stability, and peace so as to protect the shared interests of the countries in the region.”
..."Danger can come from any direction, necessitating a common security strategy for the Gulf countries based on a real understanding of partnership in the security field," Alimi said.
Yemen has called for collective efforts by the international community to fight piracy in the region, after an American warning to ships not to sail close to the Yemeni and Somali coasts because of pirates.
