New roles for old P-3s

As a young midshipman, I flew with a P-3 flying VP squadron for a couple of weeks and that was 38 years ago. It seems new missions keep popping up for these venerable old birds as reported here:

A job description might read: Spying on insurgents in Iraq and Afghanistan, deterring ship pirates off the Horn of Africa, hunting submarines or searching for a lost fisherman in the vast Pacific Ocean.
