The incident occurred the evening of April 23 at the Food Lion on 3415 Avent Ferry Road, Raleigh police spokesman Jim Sughrue said Wednesday. Sughrue said a store employee watched Josey while he was in the meat department.
“The employee said it appeared he had at least one syringe, and he pierced a package with it,” Sughrue said.
Josey fled the store before police arrived, Sughrue said. Police do not know what, if anything, was injected into the meat. They turned the package over to officials with the U.S. Department of Agriculture for testing.
