Just after midnight yesterday, Sherwood, 43, was killed by the blast of a shotgun carried by a pirate who came to steal his engine and net.
Sherwood's crewmate, Joseph Edwards, tried speeding back to shore to get medical help but did not reach in time to save his friend's life.

Over the past five years, there have been seven reported deaths linked to pirate attacks off Trinidad's west coast between Cedros and Chaguanas and several incidents involving the Venezuelan Guardia Nacio-nal.
