The 24/7 at sea


As set out here, a report that Navy sailors at sea work 24/7.

I'm shocked. Shocked, I tell you.

They shoulda been there when things are really busy.


UPDATE: Ensigns say the darnedest things:
“At sea, a workday can be 12, 13, 14 hours a day,” Ensign Rick Chernitzer says. “And that’s mainly because there’s nothing else to do at sea.”
And I always thought all those watches and things were because somebody had to drive the ship when everyone else was sleeping. Silly me. I guess the Midwatch is held just to give idle hands something to do between midnight and 0400.
