Four armed and masked pirates terrorized fishermen in the Corentyne River on Tuesday and escaped with a 48 HP Yamaha outboard engine and other items and kidnapped a crew member from a boat belonging to a fisherman from the East Coast.

The bandits who were reported to have been armed with pump action and single barrel shotguns in addition to a handgun robbed the four boats consisting of five crew members each. Using a green boat with deep red stripe to carry out the raid, the pirates escaped with the engine and other articles belonging to Omeshchand Dineshchand of Crabwood Creek, while they threw an engine and a quantity of fish belonging to another fisherman, Clent Nathoo, overboard. They also stole a quantity of fish glue, groceries, wristwatches and flashlights.
