Sri Lanka announced its Navy sunk the last ship owned by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), commonly known as the Tamil Tigers, which was used to smuggle weapons. "This is the last of the 10 ships operated by the Tigers," said a naval official to AFP. "Now they do not have a capability to smuggle in weapons using their own ships."
The announcement came about a month after Sri Lanka's navy destroyed three other of their ships on Sept. 11. Nishanthan, then leader of LTTE's naval unit, was killed in a sea battle on Sept. 27 while he was in a boat trying to evacuate rebels trapped in the east.

The ship's name was Matsuseema and carried about 12 people all of whom died. The Matsuseema was about 70 meters long and allegedly capable of carrying 3,000 tons of cargo. They were reportedly carrying military equipment such as communication equipment, radars, high powered outboard motors and jet skis.
