Philippines: Action against pirates

The Philippine Navy and Marines go after pirates as reported here:
COMBINED Navy and Marine troops killed a suspected pirate during a raid at a suspected pirates’ lair in Batu Pantan, Lagayas in the Province of Tawi-Tawi, a military spokesman said Tuesday.

The raiding troops seized two “jungkong” type of watercrafts believed to be used by the pirates in their illegal activities during the Sunday raid.

“It had been monitored that local pirates are operating in the sea waters of Sulu and Tawi-tawi, victimizing traders and fishermen in the area,” Batara said.

“These lawless elements are heavily armed and are reported to be wreaking fear (on) the populace where they decide to harbor or stay,” he added.

The Westmincom through its various operating units is calling out to all law-abiding citizens to report such kinds of individual and organizations.

“We can only do so much without your help. Be also extra aware of the Abu Sayyafs who have allied themselves with the lawless elements and who are operating in this part of the country,” Batara advised the residents.
