Two Germans kidnapped by pirates off Somalia more than five weeks ago have been released unharmed and are preparing to fly home, officials said Saturday.
Jurgen K., 63, and his companion Sabine M., 51, were sailing their yacht through the Gulf of Aden between Yemen and Somalia en route to the beaches of the Thai coast when they were seized by pirates on June 23.
"They got their freedom back after having been in captivity for a long time. The local elders and Puntland authorities helped their release," district commissioner Yusuf Jama told AFP.
"We must be ready to dare all for our country. For history does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. We must acquire proficiency in defense and display stamina in purpose." - President Eisenhower, First Inaugural Address
