The crowd booed when Mr Giuliani said Senator Obama was a gifted man with an Ivy League education who had immersed himself in Chicago machine politics. They laughed when Mr Giuliani mocked him for voting "present" on 130 occasions in Illinois State Senate. And you don't have much time to weigh all the nuances either...and there's no higher "pay grade" to palm off the decisions onto.
"He (Senator Obama) couldn't make a decision," Mr Giuliani said, feigning disbelief.
"He couldn't figure that a 'yes' or a 'no' was what it took. He simply voted 'present'.
"As mayor of New York City, I never got a chance to vote 'present'. And you know, when you're president of the United States, you can't just vote 'present'. You must make decisions."
Mr Giuliani said voters should reject the way Democrats were trying to frame the election because "change" was not a destination and "hope" was not a strategy.
"We must be ready to dare all for our country. For history does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. We must acquire proficiency in defense and display stamina in purpose." - President Eisenhower, First Inaugural Address
