What if the Houston Ship Channel suffers damage?


The Houston Ship Channel is 50 mile long snake that is 45 feet deep and 530 feet wide (see here) and leads to the busiest petrochemical areas in the world. Suppose Hurricane Ike fills in portions of the channel?

It may take weeks for the refineries and other facilities to get back on line but it won't do much good if ships can't get crude to the refineries...
