Reported here:
PIRATES have released the 16,248 dwt general cargo vessel Thor Star and the ship’s 28 crew 64 days after the Thoresen Thai-owned vessel was hijacked 160km off the coast of Yemen in early August.
A Thoresen Thai Agencies spokesman said the 1985-built vessel was released by its captors in Somalia early Tuesday morning. No details were given about whether any ransom had been paid to release the vessel and crew.
The Thai-flagged ship is heading towards an un-named port in the Middle East where the crew, which are reported to be in good spirits, will be debriefed and undergo medical checks and offered psychological counselling before being flown home.
