"We must be ready to dare all for our country. For history does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. We must acquire proficiency in defense and display stamina in purpose." - President Eisenhower, First Inaugural Address
We're just independant thinkers (and marchers). On the plus side, nobody has rifles with bayonets......(yes it was spectacular, no permanent injury, fortunately).
Having spent 6 years on submarines, we did not even fall into ranks more than once a year maybe. A local legion air force vet once told a story at a training facility that had all four branches of the service represented. The Marines were by far the best at marching to and from class. The Army was second best, and the Air Force not so much, however the Navy guys would just walk in a group smoking and joking to and from class. The base commander stopped the Navy guys one day to chastise them only to learn that they never marched since boot camp. Not enough room on board ship. The base commander shook his head and left them alone.

No naval personnel were injured or mistreated in the making of this film.
ReplyDeleteWell, I don't know, Mary, I nearly pulled a rib laughing at the picture.
ReplyDeleteOf course, I'm retired . . .
This was the AF's favorite way of marching! (Seriously, I think it's called Route Step. Or something.)

ReplyDeleteThe ground's too steady for them to remain in sync.
ReplyDeleteI weep for the traditional Navy... most of us appaluded when the Crackerjack Uniform came back... those guys in back don't even look like sailors...
ReplyDeleteAnd without tradition? IMO you don't HAVE a Navy...
