Friday Fun Film: "The Eyes of the Navy"

From the days just before the Second World War hit the U.S. - and before carrier aviation became more than just a scouting force for the battleship force, from 1940, "The Eyes of the Navy"

Periscope Film deserves praise and credit for preserving these films. You can find them (and their wide selection of movies and other stuff) here. Consider this film (and some of the others from them I've posted) as a free sample - and go buy something!

I really get a kick out of these, I may end up buying the DVDs from Periscope. Given what happened in the first months of the war, it's sometimes forgotten that the TBD and SB2U were frontline aircraft for a while. It was cool seeing the pre-WWII paint schemes, lousy camouflage, but pretty.

Wonder when they pulled polo from the training curriculum.
