Friday Fun Video: "Story of the Black Cats"
Slow, cumbersome and deadly under the right conditions.
The actual tactics relied a whole lot more on stealth than what the movie-tone shows. The Cats made the approach with the throttles chopped, so they were almost silent until after weapons release. And they certainly NEVER attacked when there was any usable light.
That was pretty cool! I have always had a soft spot for PBYs.
ReplyDeleteThey adapted, and fought valiantly, but the early days were very, very bloody for the VP guys.
